£55k weekly Chelsea star could leave Stamford Bridge next summer due to contract issues

Edouard Mendy is a good goalkeeper for Chelsea. Author Simon Phillips told GiveMeSport that if he stays behind Kepa Arrizabalaga at Stamford Bridge, he will try to leave in the summer.
The Blues made some big purchases during the January transfer window. On the last day of the market, they paid £106.8 million to Benfica for Enzo Fernandez, more than the British record at the time. As the season winds down, the team’s head coach, Graham Potter, might still make some changes.
Mendy might be sold by Chelsea as soon as the transfer market reopens. This is because the team wants to use the money to buy a new first-choice goalkeeper. The report comes from the Evening Standard.
The source says that the Senegalese goalkeeper knows that Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are all likely to be looking for a new goalkeeper soon.
AC Milan, Nice, and Monaco are all keeping an eye on Mendy because he turned down a six-year deal in the last few months of 2022. His current contract with Stamford Bridge pays him £55,000 a week, and it will end in two and a half years.
What kind of things has Simon Phillips said about Mendy?
Phillips thinks that Mendy will look for a new chance elsewhere if it becomes clear that he is no longer Chelsea’s best option to secure the goalpost.
Philips knows that the 30-year-old goalkeeper will not agree to be Kepa’s backup because he is unhappy with how little time he gets to play in west London.
Phillips told GiveMeSport that whether or not Chelsea adds a goalkeeper would depend on what happens with Mendy, since both the team and Potter like Kepa. Phillips said, “I can really see Kepa being around.” Both Potter and the club like Kepa, so I think it’s likely that he’ll stay there.

But I don’t think Mendy will stay with the team if his only job is to be the backup goalkeeper. If things keep going the way they have, he will do everything he can to leave during the summer because he wants the top job.
Should Chelsea try to sell Mendy when the summer transfer window opens?
Transfermarkt says that Mendy has only played for 404 minutes since Potter became Chelsea’s head coach in September. This shows that he is not one of the first names on the team sheet.
Kepa is now the team’s starting goalie instead of the 30-year-old goalie. The 30-year-old goalkeeper moved from Rennes to Chelsea for £22 million and joined the Blues in 2020.
