Jerome Boateng’s contract negotiations have been announced.

During the summer transfer window, Olympique Lyon signed a big name to bolster their defence. Jérôme Boateng, who was released by Bayern Munich without a contract, has joined Ol. Although he is still under contract with the French club for another year, his future is uncertain.

The central defender is performing below expectations. The 33-year-old has been known for his early-season extramarital antics and recurring physical issues, in addition to his memorable performances. Enough with the rumours of Boateng’s departure from Lyon. After a poor season, the 2014 world champion expressed his desire to take on a new challenge with his french club next season in front of the Sky Germany.

Jerome Boateng and his American MLS dream

“This season hasn’t gone as I had hoped. This is not acceptable to me or the club […] We’ll definitely meet in the summer to talk about it and see how things go. But first, I have a contract at Lyon, and I usually go on vacation in the summer,” the former Bavarian explained. This demonstrates his desire to learn more about MLS in the future.

This winter, Xherdan Shaqiri is developing in the championship. The Swiss moved to the Chicago Fire this winter after arriving at Olympique Lyon last summer under the name Boateng. The German defender is not in a rush to learn about the great North American competition.

“After that, I won’t hide it; playing in the MLS is a dream that hasn’t faded yet; it’s still possible.” It isn’t required, but it can be a fun adventure,” he stated in his statement.
